• The Victory Garden Initiative promotes the use of our own backyards (and front yards and rooftops and patios) for the production of food. We are gardeners supporting other gardeners in their own paths towards a self-sufficient, sustainable, and healthy food supply. Through mentoring, modeling and outreach we aim to make Victory Gardening a way of life for everyone. Gardening is the new protest, the passive resistance of our time. How to Volunteer for the Blitz

Hello Soil Shovelers, Garden-Go-Getters, and Raised-Bed ‘RRrrr’onsters (that’s my daughters word for monster),

Well, FINALLY, we have a plan.

In Milwaukee – If you want to volunteer for this historic event, please go to Outpost Foods on Capital Drive from 8am to 2pm on Saturday, May 23rd .  Here you will find a couple of kindred spirits who will be waiting, just waiting, to tell you which garden needs your help and then off you go to Move Grass, Grow Food. Please bring your shovels, or even a wheelbarrow.  This day is going to be a blast!  Its a beeeeaauutiful thing!

Some neighborhoods have independent events, if you’d like to stay in your neighborhood.

In Shorewood – Meet at Lake Bluff at 9am to lend a hand to this handy bunch of go-getters.  They’ll teach you how to make raised beds!  Call Amy Vuyk, 254-0532 to catch-up with the group later in the day, if you cant be there at the start time.  They will be busy installing ALOT of beds throughout the day!!!

In Bayview – Meet Katy Kujala-Korpela’s apt. complex @ 2405 S. Austin @ 9am.  The group will travel to various sites throughout Bayview.   Call 750-3818 and talk to Mark to find them.

In Riverwest – Meet at Sura Faraj’s house at 10:00 am.  3029A N. Booth.  She will be building raised beds and compost bins.

And, when we are finished sowing the seeds….let’s party!
